1977 Honda RC500M - Jim Pomeroy
1977 RC500M Type II - Jim Pomeroy used this bike to win the first moto in the 1977 USGP at Carlsbad. First american to do so. Jim also used the same bike in the 1977 Trans AMA series. His mechanic was Arne Beaman.
The frame was called the T-Frame. Very similar to the Husqvarna's of the time.
Pomeroy carried these shock with him on the flights to the races.
Heim joint on the rear brake rod to prevent binding during suspension stroke.
Beautiful profile.
Not a bad angle with this bike.
Air box and air ducts are all made from very thin fiberglass.
The 400cc engine was the same design as the 1976 Type II but featured a few upgrades.
All the shift linage that is normally behind the clutch was placed on the opposite side of the engine behind the little cover under the countershaft sprocket. The main reason for this was to narrow the engine.
Exotic inside and out. No expense spared anywhere.
Very light weight magnesium front hub with a brake liner made from very special material riveted to the hub.
Tiny rear magnesium hub was very powerful for the day. The attention to detail on these bikes is truly amazing.
Not a bad angle. Marty Smith and Jim Pomeroy both said this was the best factory bike they ever rode.
